William married Susanna Leworthy in Swimbridge on 21^st. April 1761. Susanna came from the  small village of Charles, east of Barnstaple and not far from Swimbridge. Her parents were  George and Mary Leworthy who were married on the 24^th. December 1728, with Mary Leworthy  nee Symons coming from Braunton near Barnstaple. Susanna was born on the 14^th. January  1734.

The map shows Swimbridge and  other towns and villages in  North Devon where various  members of the family have  come from.  William was baptised on the  15th. January 1731. He had two  brothers, Nicholas 1728 and  Thomas 1734. His parents were  Nicholas Andrew and Prudence  Locke who were married on  30th. June 1723. Prudence came  from North Molton and was  baptised in 1698. There was a  baptism in Swimbridge of a  Nicholas Andrew in 1684 but it is  not clear if this was the same  person, although it does seem  likely.
